Environment
Crickets require less food, water and land than traditional livestock. They’re also much more efficient at converting food into protein than cows, pigs and chickens. And they emit virtually no greenhouse gases, especially compared to cows, which are a major contributor to methane in the atmosphere.
According to The Economist, Americans are the second largest consumers of meat (per capita) in the world. The U.N. and other global organizations are encouraging people to eat insects as an alternative source of protein. They recognize that farming insects has a much lower impact on the environment while still being a good, healthy food source.
Replacing meat or dairy with Aketta a few times a week can reduce your carbon footprint and have a positive impact on the planet.
What do crickets taste like?
We roast our crickets to bring out their natural nutty, earthy flavors. Aketta whole roasted crickets taste similar to sunflower seeds. Our cricket powder has a deep, earthy, umami flavor with hints of raw cocoa.
How should I eat crickets?
Top your salad or soup with whole roasted crickets, just like you would with seeds or nuts. Use them instead of meat in your tacos, wraps or on top of your pizza. Toss them with your favorite herbs, spices or rubs and eat them as a snack.
Substitute ¼ of your standard flour with cricket powder when you make your favorite baked goods to add a protein boost. Add it to soups and stews as a thickener. Mix it in with your morning smoothie for the protein boost you need to keep going all day.
