5 Healthy Ingredients for Every Smoothie

by Yosha Singh in Cricket Protein

Smoothies help you feel fuller longer, but store-bought, processed smoothies can come with added sugar you don’t want. When you make your smoothies at home, you can be confident you have made yummy and healthy fuel for the day! Here are five ingredients you should always put in your smoothies:

  1. Cricket Flour

    • Did you know Aketta Cricket Flour packs all nine essential amino acids? It’s true! This means when you add just two tablespoons of our flour, you are adding 10g of protein to your smoothie! Cricket flour can be incorporated into other meals as well--check out our four protein hacks you might not have known.

  1. Coconut Water

    • Right after you add cricket flour, you should definitely add coconut water to your next smoothie. Aketta cricket flour packs all nine essential amino acids, and coconut water packs five essential electrolytes: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium. If you want a thinner consistency, coconut water is perfect.

  1. Chia Seeds

    • Chia is an edible seed, originating in Mexico and dating back to Mayan and Aztec culture! “Chia” actually means “strength”, which comes from the fact that the tiny seed is used an energy booster. It is a whole-grain food that contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids, carbs, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium. Also, because it is a whole-grain, it can be absorbed by the body! Use it as the topper of your next smoothie. Check out Aketta smoothie recipes(link) that feature chia seeds!

  1. Whole-Roasted Crickets

    • Speaking of nutritious toppers, whole-roasted crickets are a great topper for a smoothie. (Check out pictures here!) 30 grams of Aketta crickets contain 20 grams of protein. That means even if you sprinkle in ¼ cup of Aketta whole-roasted crickets, you add 5 grams of protein to your smoothie! Similar to chia seeds, Aketta crickets add a crunch to your smoothie without compromising on nutrition.

  1. Bee Pollen

    • Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most completely nourishing foods: they contain all the known enzymes; at least 22 amino acids; 18 vitamins; 25 minerals; 59 trace elements; 14 fatty acids; and is approximately 25% protein. In addition, bee pollen is known as a probiotic. What does this mean? Probiotics contain live bacteria that replace or add existent, beneficial bacteria already present in the GI tract. They are a super good for you--and a must-add to your next smoothie!
